The Long Version
Matra chassis first appeared in 1967, run in Formula One by Ken Tyrrell's outfit.
Jackie Stewart won the 1969 drivers' and constructors' titles in the Cosworth-powered MS80.
Matra insisted on its own V12 for 1970, so Tyrrell switched to March and then his own cars.
The works team withdrew after 1972 and concentrated on winning Le Mans.
