Lineage
The Long Version
Cooper's rear-engined layout came from 500cc Formula Three cars built out of Fiat parts.
Jack Brabham won consecutive championships in 1959 and 1960, forcing Ferrari and BRM to copy the layout.
The team lost ground once its own innovation became standard and the Cosworth DFV arrived.
Cooper withdrew from Formula One after the 1969 season.
