Bruce McLaren set up Bruce McLaren Motor Racing in 1963 and entered Formula One in 1966; he was killed testing at Goodwood in 1970.
Ron Dennis's Project Four merged with McLaren in 1980, bringing the first carbon-fibre monocoque, the MP4/1.
The Honda turbo years with Prost and Senna produced 15 wins from 16 races in 1988.
A long drought after 2008 ended with the team returning to the front of the grid in the 2020s under Zak Brown and Andrea Stella.
